Welcome to the future — Dubai uses Artificial Intelligence and machine learning algorithms to plan bus routes
As Artificial Intelligence and machine learning have become increasingly popular across numerous industries, Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) decided to use new technologies to better plan the routes of public buses. Advanced tools analyzed stops, which are always busy, stops, which are extremely popular during peak hours, and stops, which are rarely used by passengers. They used such data to decide on the best possible bus routes, abolishing or skipping the least popular bus stops. In the 30-day trial phase, public transport wasted 13,3% less time, making the experiment successful. Dubai’s authorities hoped to create a time-saving, efficient solution for public transportation, and with the help of AI and ML, they are on their way to drastically improve the city’s infrastructure.
